Eileen (Ike) Turain

Ike’s pickleball story began thanks to a nudge from Tom Badger—and from that moment, she was all in. Four years later, she’s still hooked. For Ike, the draw isn’t just the competition—it’s the wonderful people, the camaraderie, the community, and the life lessons that come with every match.

As a PPR- and IFTP-certified instructor, Ike brings a wealth of coaching experience from outside the pickleball world, too—15 years as a swim instructor and 7 years as a rowing coach. She especially loves working with beginners, remembering that “we’ve all been there.” Her favorite skills to teach are the building blocks of great pickleball: dinks, third-shot drops, serving, and partner strategy. Students can expect her trademark enthusiasm, encouragement, and her knack for explaining the “why” behind the “what.”

Pickleball, to Ike, is more than a sport—it’s “the ultimate life hack.” It has created friendships, adventures, and even a journey she shares with fellow instructor Ali Rieder, building memories both on and off the court. One of her favorite moments was walking into a court alone, only to be greeted by an old friend who welcomed her into the pickleball family with open arms.

Ike is a certified instructor with the Ohio Pickleball Academy at The Pickle Lodge, where she combines passion, positivity, and perspective to help players succeed. Ready to start your journey with Ike? Click here to book a lesson and click here to view our upcoming clinics.
